For nursery, preschool, and kindergarten, we have one PE period a week dedicated to our perceptual motor programme. The PMP aims to develop the children’s understandings of themselves in their world through movement/motor experiences, and developing perceptions of height and space, the pattern and order of their natural world, and proper use of the body.
For nursery classes, specific PMP equipment and stations are used however, the students have more of a "free play" atmosphere as opposed to specific rotations. In the preschool 1 and 2 classes, there are three different stations set up. With the teachers' help, students begin to learn the rotation process. By kindergarten, students are responsible for rotating themselves.
The three stations are chosen from a set of 100 station cards. Stations 1-50 are generally for preschool 1 and 2 while stations 51-100 are for kindergarten. Preschool uses a combination of both depending on the ability level. Skills used include, balancing, hopping, running, skipping, throwing, catching, striking, racquet skills, and more. It's great to see the students become more confident with their bodies every class!
