Swimming, water safety, and life saving skills:
Our swimming program ranges from Nursery through grade 5. For nursery through grade 2, each grade level has one swimming lesson per week for the entire school year. Grades 3 through 5 have one swimming unit per year ranging from 12-15 class periods. For the nursery through grade 2 lessons, we split the students into groups based on initial ability level. As time goes on, these groups change as the ability levels inevitably do. Nursery and kindergarten learn basic water safety skills, how to be comfortable in the water, floating, breathing, and introductory stroke work. Grades 1 and 2 focus mainly on stroke work. The introduction of new strokes vary on ability level also, but are generally introduced at the end of grade 1. Grades 3 through 5 receive a combination of stroke work, water safety, life saving skills, and water sports.
